The Master Class of Mark Keppel presents Peter Pan Jr.

Glendale, CA (April 22, 2019) – The Make Keppel Special Foundation (MKS) and Mark Keppel Visual and Performing Arts Elementary Magnet will present Peter Pan Jr., May 10-11 and 17-18 at Toll Middle School Auditorium in Glendale, CA. Tickets ($10) available at:

The Master Class students of Mark Keppel VAPA Magnet will bring the 60-minute musical to life. Watch as Peter Pan and Tinkerbell whisk the Darling children past the second star to the right on to Neverland. This fun-filled production is full of unforgettable songs (“I’m Flying”, “I Won’t Grow Up”), adventures, and familiar characters like Hook, Smee, Tiger Lily, and the Lost Boys. It is based on the cherished play by J.M. Barrie and 1954 Broadway musical, led by Tony Award-Winners Mary Martin and Cyril Richard.

Master Class is comprised of 46 - 4th and 5th grade students who meet every week throughout the year to learn how a musical theater production comes together. Past productions include: Beauty and The Beast, Jr., Aladdin Jr. and Seussical. Led by Cris Neel (Production Manager), Linda Neel (Choreography), Cathy Gilbert (Director), and Lucia Acitelli (Vocals), the students get hands-on experience after school in all aspects of producing a show. As the Art Department arm of Master Class, 18 more students, led by Joan Zierhut, design and create all the props for the program.

“The show is a natural extension of all the knowledge that the students gain during their weekly art classes [here at Mark Keppel VAPA Magnet].  The actors are really invested in the production. The parents also feel invested in the production as evidenced by how many of them WANT to help by sewing, painting, building and being involved. It is a labor of love from both the parents and students”, says Ms. Neel.

The Make Keppel Special Foundation (MKS), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to supporting art education at Mark Keppel VAPA Magnet. They completely fund Keppel’s Dance, Music, Theatre and Visual Art classes as well as produce school-wide Art events for all Keppel Families to enjoy via donations from Keppel families and the surrounding community. MKS also helps provide supplies and Intervention Teachers, which benefit the entire school. It is 100% parent-volunteer run.
